Mammut’s CEO perched himself on Eiger’s North Face to announce a photo contest — and then hide a camera.

The attention-grabbing video announces the brand’s 2025 photo contest, in which Mammut encourages photographers to capture their summer by getting outside and adventuring.

There are six contest categories, each rewarding a photographer with Mammut gear, a guided mountain experience including accommodation, and more. The grand prize winner also receives two plane tickets to Switzerland with SWISS, a guided mountain experience with ZERMATTERS, and a Leica SL2-S camera.

To add more incentive, the brand has stashed 24 gear packages around the world. That apparently includes the camera shown in the vid below.

Finders, Keepers

The stashed gear is part of Mammut’s “Finders, Keepers” campaign, which sees outdoor athletes (and Mammut CEO Heiko Schäfera) hide gear packages dubbed “Adventure Kits” in secret locations across the globe. The 24 kits hold more than $66,000 in outdoor gear combined and are waiting to be discovered in secret spots around the globe — indoors and outdoors.

Each day, an influencer will announce the contents of another kit. Mammut’s social media feeds will then follow up with clues to its location. The roster of international outdoor stars and creators includes Adam Ondra, Jérémie Heitz, Brendan Carberry, Lena Drapella, and Katie Burrell.

Technically, the campaign is separate from the photo contest. However, as you can see, a Leica camera is one of the hidden treasures.

The 2025 Mammut Photo Contest

Mammut’s goal is to curate photos that highlight “stunning places, moving encounters, and the magic of being outdoors.” The photo contest runs through July 15.

A jury of photography, outdoor, and brand specialists, along with Mammut Ambassadors, will anonymously evaluate all entries based on how they fit the six themes listed below.

6 Ways to Shoot

  • Book a Room with a View: Landscapes and base camps
  • Don’t Miss the Sights: Favorite locations
  • Chill with the Locals: Unforgettable encounters with people or animals
  • Avoid Tourist Traps: Hidden natural gems

  • Check-In Early*: Exclusive Instagram category

Note: The Check-In Early category is an Instagram-based photo contest with community voting. It closes on June 15. To enter this category, photographers must tag @mammut, include the hashtag #mammutphotocontest, and mention “Check-In Early” in the caption.
